Job Description

Medical Interpreter – English/Vietnamese – PRN – 82754


Works with the overall scope of Urban Central Region (Salt Lake Valley) Language Services Department to deliver both verbal and written language interpretation to meet communication and multicultural education needs of patients and their families. Incumbent will be required to assist with language interpretation in different Intermountain facilities as needed.
This is a PRN position where the hired individual will pick up shifts on an as needed basis.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Excellent oral and written command of both Vietnamese and English languages.
  • Knowledge of fundamental medical terminology in both languages.
  • Able to perform consecutive, simultaneous and conferencing interpreting at different registers accurately and error free in both languages.
  • Two years or more of work experience in a bilingual environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Able to work with little supervision managing time productively, efficiently, meeting required deadlines.
  • Commitment to Intermountain Mission and Values.
  • Unless completed previously, completion of a Medical Terminology course at a college level with B or better grade, within 6 months of hire.
  • Passing monthly medical terminology testing upon hired to ensure strong command of medical terminology.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
    Intermountain verifies both degree attainment and educational institution accreditation following an offer of employment.
  • Interpretation Certification from an accredited institution.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Two years of interpretation in health care.
  • Ability to speak a third language
  • Program coordination experience.
  • Experience in Educational design/Educational Activities.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
